NOTS are delighted to be facilitating a 1-day Syntropic Agroforestry Introduction – Systems Trials in Ireland on 15th October

Led by Davi Leon a Brazilian who has been producing chemical free vegetables In Wicklow since 2018 with his partner Hazel Nairn. Together they had a CSA from 2018 to 2021. This year the production has been focused on cut flowers and leaves for a local shop. Davi studied Syntropic Agroforestry in 2016 in Brazil and since 2020 has been pioneering trials in Ireland.

• Cost: €70.00 when you sign up through NOTS.  This includes lunch (most of it produced at the farm) and tea breaks
• Venue: Ashford Community and Heritage Centre (ashfordcentre.com) in the morning before moving on to Hazel & Davi’s Wicklow Farm, Ashford Co. Wicklow

What is Syntropic Agroforestry? 

– Agricultural systems inspired by the local and original ecosystems of  any given place, allowing the production of food, timber, fibres and any  other farming activities. 

– Very diverse and dense forest systems that allow for continuous  harvests of crops, while sustaining healthy soil with little to no  dependency on external inputs.

• What are the fundamentals of Syntropic Agriculture – Soil, Natural Succession, Stratification and Ecological relationships;
• What kind of systems can one implement and manage;
• Our Experience in Wicklow with 2000sqm of area planted:
  Planted March 2020 – Apple, Plum, Hazel and Walnut
  Planted in Sept 2021 – Apple and Hazel / Vegetable plot
  Planted in March / July 2022 – Pear and Plum / Apple and Plum;
• Input and Output from systems in Wicklow.
