Organic Production Principles (Online) July 2021

Learn what’s involved in converting to organic farming with this 25-hour / 4-day course in Organic Production Principles. The practical organic course is QQI Level 5 certified, and is accepted to gain access onto the Organic Farming Scheme.

With current restrictions in place, the course will be taught live, online, across 4 days in July (July 6th, 7th, 20th & 21st)

On completion of the course, participants will be proficient in:

Interpretation of organic standards
The principles of organic production
Assessing economic viability and market opportunities

Course Timetable:

Day 1: Tuesday July 6th 2021

10.00am – 1.00pm: Intro / Background to Organic Farming Lecture
Pre and post-reading assignments

Day 2: Wednesday July 7th 2021

10.00am – 1.00pm: Organic Farming Principles – Lesson + Q&A
2.00pm – 4.00pm: Virtual Farm Visit 1 + Live Q&A with Farmer
Post Day 2: Homework / Case Study & Support + Pre-reading for Day 3

Day 3: Tuesday July 20th 2021

10.00am – 1.00pm: Organic Farming Theory – Lesson + Q&A
2.00pm – 4.00pm: Virtual Farm Visit 2 + Live Q&A with Farmer

Day 4: Wednesday July 21st 2021

10.00am – 11.00am: Organic Case Studies Video + Discussion
12.00pm – 1.00pm: Virtual Farm Visit 3 + Live Q&A with Farmer
2.00pm – 4.00pm: Examination + Assessment

Format:
– Online Tutorials / Lectures plus virtual farm visits, and online assessment. Note: All classes will take place LIVE – there will be no provision to “watch back” at your own pace – due to accreditation guidelines.
