The course is based around extending crop rotations by introducing legume cash crops (including instruction on agronomy, challenges, varieties, inter cropping, benefits, and more)

In addition to live, in-person, and online tuition, the course includes two invaluable visits to Tom’s farm in Co Cork where you will see the methods in action. This is an incredible opportunity to learn about high-level protein crop growing from an organic perspective.

Course Programme / Dates:

Session 1: Monday 8th February – Live Online Introductory Session

Types of legumes cash crops, farm and soil type suitability, extending rotation, different types of crop establishment, seed rates.

Session 2: Monday 22nd March – On-Farm Session at Tom Fouhy’s Farm in Co Cork

Weed control, nutrient demand, trace elements, under sowing mulch crops.

Session 3: Monday 24th May – On-Farm Session at Tom Fouhy’s Farm in Co Cork

Disease / pest-weed pressures, weeding, harvesting, exploring opportunities for following cash crops.

Session 4: Monday 27th September – Live Session (Either Classroom or Online depending on restrictions)

Follow up on growers experience, yields, sowing rates, different legume performance, addressing problems.
