Soil Biology, Hot Composting and Compost Extract

NOTS bring to you an exciting full day intensive course featuring an in-depth introduction to soil and compost biology by Dave Beecher. This will explain and illustrate how a biological system functions at the microscopic level and how by working with them, you can reduce fertilizer costs.  Ger McEvoy will explain how he has put this knowledge into practice to reduce his chemical bill by 90% to create a low input golf course maintenance program. Compost is a key component to Ger’s system, therefore participants will make a hot compost pile. Gaining an understand of the importance of; using the right balance of ingredients, correct moisture levels, monitoring/controlling the piles temperature and following the correct turning schedule. Compost material from a mature pile be used to make a compost extract and Ger will explain how he uses it to treat his greens.
